The Elegance of a Pocket Watch

Hager is pleased to release two attainable hand-wound Tourbillon timepieces for those who are looking for complicated and elaborate.  Hager has been making luxury watches accessible to the common man for more than ten years now. Each Hager is designed with the same quality and precision as any world-renowned watch, but for those who want a true timepiece that is worth its value.  After listening to Dr. George Daniels talk about pocket watches we decided to produce one. Hager worked with a Far-East manufacturer to make available these higher-quality tourbillon watches at prices that are one tenth or less of those from a company in Switzerland. These are truly excellent watches for anyone who can't afford a European tourbillon.  The tourbillon is backed by a 3 year guarantee of the movement and should servicing of the tourbillon be necessary, should it ever need servicing, Maryland Watch Works will complete the work here in the United States.

Abraham-Louis Breguet invented the tourbillon ("whirlwind") in 1795. Back then, men carried their pocket watches around vertically in their vest pockets. This position negatively impacted the watches' accuracy, and thus they would often deviate from the reference time. Therefore, Breguet invented a cage that makes an entire 360-degrees rotation every minute and placed the balance wheel and escapement inside the cage. The rotation compensated for the gravity-related deviations, delivering a more stable rare by eliminating the effect of positional variance. The irony is that its purpose of attempting to improve the accuracy of movements was never really validated. Today, tourbillon watches are now marketed more as an aesthetic feature than a horological one, however tourbillons are still considered proof of haute horlogerie.

“The pocket watch is much more elegant than the wrist watch ” ~ Dr. George Daniels.
